What's Once On This Island about?

Taking place on Haiti in the early 20th century, the population of this small island are split between the darker-skinned 'peasants' and the lighter-skinned wealthier population. In a sudden flash flood, a young girl (Ti Moune) is washed away, however, the island gods look kindly upon her and save her life, cementing her important destiny.

Years later, Ti Moune's destiny comes to fruition as she rescues a young rich man from a similar situation that be-falled her in her childhood. However, Ti Moune has a choice, in order to save this young man's life she must trade her soul...

Courtnee Carter is a Siren

Just experienced the musical at TPAC last night. Absolutely wonderful... I enjoyed the setting and the delightful talented cast. The songs and dancing echos throughout the African diaspora. Courtnee Carter is beautiful, sings like an angel and dances with the passion of her ancestors. ... Read more

CAPTIVATING & MOVING, AMAZING CAST, BEAUFITUL SETS AND COSTUMES

Watched the show last night - what an amazing performance!!! The cast is incredible, so vocally gifted, and each actor gives great life to their role (keep an eye out for Papa Ge). The story is very moving, and the performers convey the emotion effectively. The Costuming, lighting & staging are very creative and visually appealing. The set is incredibly imaginative, but be aware that if you're sitting in the first two rows, you may get a little "sand" on you. The show also touches on the issues of classism as well as shadism/colourism, which are still important issues today. ---------------------------- To the reviewer asking for a refund: It's not the fault of the company if you didn't like the story. Do you ask for a refund at the movies each time you don't like the plot? Both the synopsis and soundtrack of this musical are readily available. Caveat emptor. ... Read more

Somethings Missing- But it’s not Talent

Take away the intimate/ interactive feel of Broadway and you still have a great performance. The cast was super talented and they pulled it off very well without Alex Newell or Merle Dandridge. But somehow the storyline lacks content. However, we love a musical for the singing and dancing, and with that you will not be disappointed! And the production brought the story to life. You really felt like they were in a Hotel Ballroom with sand still on the stage! Excellent! ... Read more
